My Ski Shots

The following photos were taken from a 2-day competition at Snowmass, near Aspen, February, 2000. They were taken from still captures from a digital video camera. Please excuse that they lack the clarity of true photographs.

Here I am doing a spread eagle jump. This type of jump appears better in photographs than my other tricks. The two jumps that I usually do in competition are a spread-eagle (called a single jump) and a twister-spread (called a double jump).

Here I am skiing at the bottom of the mogul course, after the jumps. A typical mogul course consists of two or more lines of moguls for competitors to ski down, each with 2 jumps. Competitors must do different tricks off each jump. For example, I cannot do two spread-eagle jumps in a competition run.

Mogul competitions are scored based on three different things. There are judges present to award scores on both turns and jumps. Double jumps (two tricks in the air as opposed to one trick) usually score higher than single jumps, just as triple jumps score higher than doubles. The third part of the score is based on speed.

Ski fast, but pretty!

Here I am wearing the "pink bib", which signifies that I placed 6th in the last moguls event.
