Hi all,
I wasn't going to write today, but I figured, hey, it's free, and I’ve got time, so why not?
I hope all of you are doing well!
Anyway, we're still having a good time in Helsinki. It’s after 10 pm, and it feels like it would be around 8 pm in Colorado. The nights are nearly non-existent here right now. We’re at 60 degrees latitude, approximately... similar to the latitude of Anchorage, Alaska. I think that it was dark for about 2 hours last night! And when it was dark, it wasn't really dark. It still was kind of a dark twilight outside.
Anyway, we saw a lot more of Helsinki today, and went over to this nearby island called Suomenlinna where all of the locals seem to hang out on the weekend. The island is home to an old military fort, which we went to see. But, the Finns were there for picnics and pleasure. It was crazy to see thousands of them on this tiny island, sitting in the sun in their bathing suits, while I was freezing with my windbreaker on! It was only about 65 degrees today, and really windy... a bit on the cold side for summer as far as I’m concerned. But to them, It was a wonderfully warm day! I can't even begin to imagine how cold it gets here in the winter!
Well, gotta run!
Brittany
